Dine @ Michigan ("the app") is a dining menu and campus information app for the University of Michigan. This policy explains what information the app accesses, how it's used, and what is not collected.
The app does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide your name, email, or any other personal identifying information to use it.
If you grant location permission, your device's location is used only to show your position on the in-app campus map. Your location is not sent to or stored on our servers, is not linked to your identity, and is not shared with any third party. Location access is entirely optional — the app works fully without it.
If you enable notifications, a device push token is used solely to deliver dining-related alerts you've opted into (such as a favorited food item becoming available, or a dining hall opening/closing). This token is not shared with advertisers or used for any purpose other than sending these notifications.
The app uses PostHog to collect anonymous usage data — such as which screens are viewed and which buttons are tapped — to help us understand how the app is used and fix bugs. This data is tied to an anonymous, randomly generated device identifier, not to your name, email, or any other personal information. It is not sold, and it is not used to track you across other apps or websites.
Your favorites, app settings, and cached dining menu data are stored locally on your device so the app works offline. This local data is not uploaded to any server in a way that identifies you.
Menu, hours, and location information displayed in the app is sourced from publicly available University of Michigan dining information and is not personal data.
The app does not display ads, and does not use any third-party advertising SDKs.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
